Have the Overwhelming Buster shard and any weapon type in your bag.  Opening the shard/upgrade interface will allow you to equip the Overwhelming  Buster shard (though does not benefit heros other than Gunwitch) on seemingly any weapon type (I tried bow, sword, tome).  Weapons equipped on heros do not show the shard as available to be socketed.
